How dumb is Hollywood - Emmy's 2009. They put on the Emmy Awards and spend the night telling the audience how much they're afraid of specialty tv and the internet eating their lunch.

Then they put all these beautiful people on stage and don't tell us what shows they're on.

Then they waste our time with meaningless banter instead of taking, say, 30 seconds a show, and showcase their best entertainment. Instead they show us a one minute montage so we have no clue what new shows to pick up.

And they don't even talk about new shows to catch. Absurd.

They have a captured audience of millions and squander the entire opportunity.

Dumb.

The Emmys shouldn't be about watching the Emmys, it should be a 3 hour promotion for the networks' shows. Instead of complaining about the future, they should take some time and promote the present. Why did they tell us who the presenters were by focussing on something they did when they were kids. Tell us what shows they're on now.

Stupid.

Take 30 seconds a show, and tell us what we should be watching now. Give each network air time, let 'em showcase their stuff.

And for god's sake, take some time and promote the new shows. In case they hadn't noticed, they're all starting this week.

I hate Dell. I have purchased at least 7 or 8 Dell computers over the years. After the first, I kept on buying 'cause it was easy.

You look at their site, you make a configuration, you either order on line, or you call and order - I always called and ordered. That's because they have more configurations available over the phone, than on the site.

Dell has the sale nailed. They do this very well. I have no complaints about how they go about taking my money, and delivering the goods. The computer comes over a few days in several boxes, but that's their issue, not mine. I make one trip to the courier office, and done. Yup, they know how to sell.

Service, well that's another story. So if you don't want a Mac, and you don't think you will ever, I mean ever need to contact Dell, then sure, maybe buy a Dell.

But frankly, I've needed to call Dell for almost all of the computers I've bought from them. So, out with the lemon theory. Their computers really aren't that good. This includes the one I'm working on right now, here at the office. Yea, it's slow as hell, after reformatting.

You want service from Dell, fuggetaboutit - that is, unless you have the patience of a saint (which I don't). If that's the case, knock yourself out. Me, I prefer to do what my daughter does - go to the Apple store, talk to someone who cares, in person, and leave with a fixed computer.

Oh yea, as soon as I have enough shekels put together, I'm getting a Mac. In the meantime, I have to tell you a story.

A while back, this after several other incidents, I had to have a computer serviced. There was most clearly a hardware issue. I'm not technical when it comes to opening up the computer. But with Dell, you need to be. Why? Because when you call them, even if you pay for in-home service, you need to figure out the problem and try to solve it first, before they will send someone out. Great, cut costs, have your customers do the servicing. Not for me, not ever again.

One time I had to remove the fan, along with several wires, re-wire, etc. Another time, same issue with a hard drive, out, in, rewire, rewire, retest. OMG. I thought, what if I were blind, or had no arms or something. Then they'd have to send someone out.

Yea, so the last time I called for tech support I did it. After doing the initial triage around software - sure I did that part - they proceeded to the hardware questions. So I'm not technically inclined. But I know when something's broken. They needed to send a technician. But they wouldn't until they put me, again, through the grinder, opening the box, removing pieces and hoping to put humpty back together again.

Well, not this time. I said I had a broken arm and could not perform manual labor on the computer. Yep, they bought it.

The next day there was a technician out replacing my mother board. Yea, like I really wanted to go through the trouble of pulling that stuff out of the computer. Are they nuts?

I've had so many issues with Dell. Yea, so why 8ish computers from them. They make it damn easy to buy. So, buyer beware: sometime after you've bought one, you're going to be miserable with your decision.

Coming up.. why HP is just as bad (on-line that is) .
